History:  Barbarella, Boss, and Morris belonged to a breeder in Elmer, OK. The owner and his wife were getting a divorce and neither wanted the responsibility of feeding and caring for their lions. The local law officers were feeding them to keep them calm. The Judge told the owners to sell the lions. They could not find anyone that would buy them. A cougar breeder in Mena, AR told Turpentine Creek about the lions. TC called the owners and told them they would take the lions, but they would not pay for them. The Judge gave his consent and Don Jr. went after them. The lions were brought to the Jackson home in Hope, AR and later moved to Eureka Springs in August 1992, along with an additional 10 cats and other animals.

Personal: Barbarella has grown into a fine young lady. She shares a cage with Kat and Esmerelda. Since all 3 of these cats have their claws, they are caged in an area we refer to as "death row". The name, "death row" is not in reference to any action to be taken towards the cats, but serves as a grisly reminder for the volunteers that work at the refuge. Barbarella has scratched more people by any other cat at the Refuge.

To control the breeding, Barbarella received a birth control implant on August 2, 1997. Dr. Jodie Adler, a surgeon from McClelland Veteran’s Hospital in Little Little Rock, AR, performed the procedure.

What can we say?! We just can't seem to say no to the cats and animals that need a home. It is better than the alternative. We really need some natural habitats built to relieve the pressure within the compound. See what you can do to help. Anything and everything helps! Please do what you can now ... the animals will appreciate it more than you know!
