History:  Sherman was born at the Refuge along with two other little boys. The parents are Jaspar & Tazaz. This happened just one day after Tigger and Tara had presented the Refuge with Miss Emmy and Jennifer #1. Don & Hilda had gone to Chicago, to visit DePaul University early that morning and carried Miss Emmy and Jennifer #1 with them. The cubs were born later the same day. The volunteers at the Refuge did a wonderful job of caring for the three little boys while Don & Hilda were away. Regardless of the care, Sherman’s two brothers died on August 18, 1995 at the age of 9 days. Sherman was named after Sherman "Jack" Jackson, one of the Refuge founders that died of cancer.

Personal: "Shermie" has a very sweet disposition and loves attention. He and his cage mate, Miss Emmy, are almost inseparable. Sherman has been the "star" at many promotions and is one of the "favorites" at the Refuge. He is truly a beautiful tiger. He is also the biggest star of the 1998 "Animals of Turpentine Creek," calendar. Even though Sherman weighs close to 600 pounds at the age of 3, he can still walk on a leash and be around people. The only problem with him is some times he does not want to go back to his cage. That can be a problem.

What can we say?! We just can't seem to say no to the cats and animals that need a home. It is better than the alternative. We really need some natural habitats built to relieve the pressure within the compound. See what you can do to help. Anything and everything helps! Please do what you can now ... the animals will appreciate it more than you know!
